Since the inception of golf the caddie has been an integral part of the game. Today's caddie has a complicated job. Not only do they need to be aware of the challenges and obstacles of the course they need to have the ability to convey this knowledge to their player. A good caddie has to be able to keep his/her player focused, advise him/her on their play and inform them of where they are in the game.
The World Series of Golf has added another twist. In our patent-pending format of play a caddie must manage a players' money and have the betting savvy to advise him/her in the wagering aspect of the game. The role of the caddie is also the Financial Advisor.
The WSG is the only event in the world that allows players to play gold and wager on shots to advance in the tournament. The is where a caddie/financial advisor is key. The caddie/financial advisor has to understand the current situation. This includes evaluating a players' bank (how much money they have), the current ante, pot and bets. Do you check, fold or raise? Can your player make their shot? What is your strategy to win the event? It is imperative that the caddies/financial advisors know the rules of World Series of Golf to be successful.
For example, if a player is on the 16th hole (on day 1) and has $4,800 in their bank, a good caddie/financial advisor will inform their player that the ante is $3,200. Leaving them with $1,600 in their bank. Therefore, they must win the hole in order to have enough money for the ante on 17 (see graphic below).
In order to help the players and their caddie/financial advisors, the WSG has "Get Acquainted" events. These events bring players and caddies/financial advisors together to play the format at Paiute golf course and educate player and caddie/financial advisor intricacies of the WSG format.
